Announcement for the Recruitment of High-Level Talent at Suzhou Institute of Innovative Pharmaceuticals

1. Introduction to the Institute

The Suzhou Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation (SIPI) is a strategic science and technology innovation engine jointly established by the Suzhou Municipal Government, Suzhou Industrial Park, and Soochow University. The institute is deeply rooted in the thriving biomedical industry cluster of Suzhou, integrating Soochow University's top-tier disciplines, talents, and clinical resources. It is entrusted with the strategic mission of supporting the National Center of Technology Innovation for Biopharmaceuticals and the National Center of Regional Technology Transfer and Transformation for Biomedicine in Universities.


The institute has established a new collaborative mechanism for industry-academia-research integration, where “enterprises pose challenges, joint teams solve problems, and the government provides support”. It is committed to conducting well-organized research with “a distinct direction, concrete objectives and clearly articulated needs” to precisely address key technological bottlenecks in the industry. By connecting the entire chain of “basic research—technological breakthroughs—results transformation—industrial application,” the institute aims to become a leading and world-class hub for biopharmaceutical innovation and industrial transformation. It will contribute to building Suzhou into an international biopharmaceutical industry landmark, providing impetus as well as strategic support for China’s self-reliance and strength in biopharmaceutical technology.


2. Key Areas

Molecular targeted drugs, biopharmaceuticals, gene and cell therapy drugs, AI-driven drug development, and others.


3. Positions and Requirements

(1) Dongwu Chair Professor

Recipients of top global awards such as the Nobel Prize, Fields Medal, Turing Award, etc.; Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Academicians of national academies of science or engineering in developed countries; or other distinguished scholars who have made pioneering, landmark achievements in their respective fields, and enjoy high academic reputation and influence both domestically and internationally. The general age limit is 65years.


(2) Distinguished Professor (Leading Talent)

Individuals holding positions equivalent to Associate Professor or higher at prestigious overseas universities or research institutions, with high-level research achievements and strong scientific innovation capabilities, or experience in multinational pharmaceutical companies’ R&D; or those who have made internationally recognized high-level original research achievements in academic frontier fields and have reached the academic standard of national-level leading talent. Applicants should have the ability to lead their field in maintaining national leadership and striving for international excellence. Preferred applicants should have rich experience in industrialization and strong organizational and coordination skills. The general age limit is 55 years.


(3) Distinguished Professor (Outstanding Talent)

Individuals holding positions such as Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, or equivalent at renowned overseas universities or research institutions; or those who have made significant academic contributions with research outcomes that have substantial academic impact in their field, having reached the academic standard of national-level young talent. Applicants should possess the ability to support their field in maintaining national leadership and advancing toward international excellence. Preferred applicants should have extensive industrialization experience and good organizational and coordination skills. The general age limit is 45 years.


4. Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for the Dongwu Chair Professor position will be determined through individual negotiations. For the Distinguished Professor positions, the university will offer highly competitive salaries, along with performance-based bonuses without cap. Relocation subsidies and academic startup funds will be provided according to the university’s relevant policies. Additionally, applicants may apply for supplementary funding and subsidies based on national, provincial, and municipal policies.


For talents recruited for the full-time positions mentioned above, the university will offer permanent faculty position of professor besides the financial support mentioned above, in accordance with relevant policies. Social insurance will be provided as per the provincial and municipal regulations. For foreign applicants, compensation and benefits will be in line with the relevant provincial, municipal, and university regulations.


5. Support for Work Conditions

(1) The university and institute will provide spacious offices and laboratories for recruited talent, support the building of research teams, offer enrollment quotas of PhD and Master students, provide transitional accommodation, and fully support the development of the talent.

(2) The institute will assist high-level talent in establishing collaborative projects with leading biopharmaceutical companies and innovative enterprises. Priority will be given to supporting talent in applying for dual appointments at the affiliated hospitals of Soochow University. The support for talent will be full spectrum, covering "government, industry, academia, research, and healthcare", to ensure that talent can carry out innovative research and achieve results industrialization.

(3) Priority will be given to ensuring that the children of recruited talent can attend local high-quality schools, and assistance will be provided for the employment of spouses. Additionally, a one-stop service will be provided to fully address the concerns of the recruited talent regarding their relocation and integration.
